A Place to Remember

Sometimes a photograph isn't enough.

Nathalie M. came to scemax with a photograph of her beloved dog Molly who had passed away. Molly was more than just a dog and I have had the pleasure to spend some time with her on multiple occasions. Nathalie and Molly had a special bond and we wanted to preserve the memory, but we also wanted to have something that represents Molly's character, she loved being outdoors, running wild, exploring somewhere beautiful, happy, and full of life.

I didn't think a simple 'studio like' portrait was enough, so we created an entire scene.

We took the original image and used it as the starting point for an entirely new piece of artwork. We preserved the character and presence of Molly while building a completely new environment around her.

The photograph became a scene.

The scene became a story.

And the story became a representation of Molly and her unique personality.

We imagined a setting that felt magical, natural, and full of life. Somewhere Molly could be seen running, exploring, and simply being herself. We worked through the details of the environment, lighting, composition, color, and atmosphere until the new image felt like a real moment rather than an artificial creation. We also added an artistic aspect and made the new scene look like a painting.

This wasn't about replacing the original photograph.

It was about giving the memory somewhere new to live.

The final piece became more than a photograph of a dog. It became a personal work of art created from a real memory, but impossible to capture with a camera.

Because sometimes you can't take another photograph.

But you can still create something beautiful from the one you have.
